A MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR

There are a myriad of threats that jeopardize peace and stability. Among these threats, the proliferation of extremism is a peril to civilized society. These extremists include, but are not limited to the following: religious, anarchists, anti-government, and anti-globalization. They operate both in the United States and abroad. Advances in technology and media have enabled extremists to broadcast their propaganda to an untold audience. These provocative messages have enticed a vulnerable following into discontent and action. Consider the riots that occurred during World Trade Organization meetings in Seattle, the Rwandan Genocide, the recent rioting in Greece and the political demonstrations in Iran.

Instability is increasing with the compounding of the economic crisis. With more jobs lost comes the elevation of workplace violence and targeted threats against CEO’s, management and the upper echelon of society. This instability also gives terrorist organizations the ability to recruit Westerners to radical Islam through despair. The reality is that every day there are countless people being incited to violence and extremism through media and manipulation. Security is a never-ending story whether it be abroad or here at home, in our place of work, a shopping mall, school or our own backyard we must all be vigilant and aware of our surroundings day to day as the global climate changes.
